Today we’re excited to announce the general availability of Epsagon’s drag-and-drop custom dashboards for monitoring, analyzing, troubleshooting, and visualizing trace-based performance metrics over time, which are fully customizable for users’ unique environments.

With this new functionality, you now can ask questions of your application data and analyze performance based on the key performance indicators (KPIs) you care about, like application health, customer experience, and business-level metrics.

In using Epsagon’s custom dashboards, you will experience the full functionality of our automated monitoring as well as context-rich troubleshooting with correlated metrics, logs, traces, and payloads, making it easy to drill down and pinpoint root-cause.

Epsagon's Custom Dashboards

Custom Dashboard with your Unique KPIs

Enrich Your Data for Custom Analysis

Epsagon filters and generates traces automatically based on application and high-level infrastructure data. To search data, you can use existing tags automatically generated by Epsagon or create a custom indexed tag for traces by specifying the custom data you want to be generated. Within the Epsagon settings tab, it’s as simple as adding a tag (for example, aws.sns.message.title), then searching on a particular title to see the performance of that title over time in your environment.

Automated and Custom Tagging for Enriched Data

With tagging you’re able to enrich the data collected, enabling you to pinpoint a specific event or detect trends based on a unique business dimension. Tags are useful in several scenarios:

  • Correlating incidents and customers – identifying a problem that happened to a specific user/customer in the application
  • Gaining insights into the customer experience – understanding the performance metrics of a specific event
  • Visualizing business trends – looking at trends for business-level KPIs

Once you’ve added a custom tag, Epsagon will search your payloads for those tags and automatically index them, in addition to other tags, within a few minutes. When a trace with the new tag is sent, you can filter it via the Trace Search view. You also can create custom alerts based on your custom tags.

A Custom Dashboard with Your Unique KPIs

In the Trace Search view, the custom tag search is visualized right below charts on total successful requests, total errors, and latency.

Visualize and Add Custom Tag Search with Epsagon Custom Dashboards

Visualize and Add Your Custom Tag Search to Your Custom Dashboard

You can analyze the number of requests and errors to see, for example, whether you’ve experienced a spike or steady-state in calls. You can also look at latencies, whether there has been a performance issue or degradation in call latency.

For custom analysis, you can visualize any metric by clicking Visualize, and selecting a tag to aggregate and an aggregation function. Custom analysis can help you answer questions like:

  1. What is the daily total order quantity?
  2. How many unique items were ordered over the past week?
  3. How many API errors occurred?

If you don’t see the tag you want to visualize, you can have it indexed.

By clicking on “add to custom dashboard,” you can add custom tagged visualizations to your dashboard to be viewed and analyzed alongside other data you have included for context-rich analysis.

Using Epsagon’s custom dashboards enables you to focus on specific areas in your environment. For example, after making changes to your environment, you could monitor system performance before and after the changes to see any latency or duration issues in these specific timeframes.

To troubleshoot, you can correlate performance metrics (for example, a performance symptom with other leading indicators) and save the visualization for a more holistic view of the possible problem as you begin a troubleshooting session for identifying root-cause.
